Update
April 5, 2012: SM wells in Poe oil field.
Later: a reader asked about the "H3" designation, suggesting this may mean a Three Forks well. I went back and checked the well files and he/she is exactly correct. All three "H3" wells (not confidential) were Three Forks wells; one can assume the others were middle Bakken wells.

Note: KOG wells with the "H3" designation: Three Forks

The Poe oil field is an irregularly shaped field, relatively small, only 30 sections or so, right in the middle (or slightly to the west) of the bull's eye of the Bakken. The field is about 7 miles northeast of Alexander, North Dakota. It sits immediately southeast of the Camp oil field and immediately southwest of Banks oil field, two fields that have produced some huge wells.
Which reminds me, but I can't find it, so I guess I haven't done it. Here's a list of the KOG Koala wells:

KOG has some huge wells in the POE field. I don't think they have missed on a single well in their KOALA play at all. SM Energy, Oasis, and Continental are all players there as well and there wells have also been very good. As you may remember this is where the Jaynes well is located and blew out last year. From talking with company men from all of the above it is clear that this is an area of the Bakken with extreme pressures. This extends all the waay down into and south of Arnegard and East towards Watford and south. This will be a big area this year.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I had forgotten about the Jaynes well. Regarding high pressures, even the oldest well is not yet on a pump yet (one well is on a pump, I see).
DeleteThank you for taking time for such an informative comment. A lot of folks are very, very interested in what this summer will be bringing.
I'm wondering if the "H3" designation means that this is a Three Forks well...Anybody out there familiar with Kodiak's designation setup? If so, this is a GREAT well!!!! Dave
DeleteThat is correct the H3 is Three Forks in Kodiak Speak.
DeleteI think you are correct. After your comment, I went back to the well files for three of the "H3" designated wells, and they were all Three Forks wells. You can assume the others were middle Bakken formation.
DeleteI was not quite sure how much ceramic proppant is being used; but it looks like KOG is using about 24 stages and about 3 million proppants (sand + ceramic).
Wow, I appreciate my readers. Thank you. Our notes are out of order. I was researching and posting my reply (above) when yours came in. Technically you beat me to the answer, but I was working away on it (the answer). Thank you.
DeleteThe next question is: is there an "H2" designation?
